Between Storm and Shore
The Quiet Betrayal of the Final Moment
In this mixed-media work of hammered aluminum and oil paint, a lone boat becomes a symbol of endurance and fragile hope—weathered, resilient, yet vulnerable against a restless sea. The reclaimed metal reflects a spirit that has survived, carrying the marks of struggle even as it drifts toward safety.
But this is more than survival. It is about the cruel irony of fate—enduring the storm, only to be undone at the shore. Just as arrival seems certain, a final wave erases it all, revealing how fragile hope can be.
Within the work echoes the artist’s poetic reflection:
“Quddus tu meri kismat dekho — Toofan se bach aaya magar
Saahil pe jo pohnchi kashtii meri — Ek mauj dubaa kar chali gayii
(Quddus! Just look at what fate has done — I escaped the storm yet was undone
When my boat reached the shore so near, a single wave sank it — then disappeared.)”
Here, the sea becomes fate itself—and the boat, like the human heart, sails on knowing even the shore offers no guarantees.
